It is few hours before the anticipated 2nd debate between president Barack Obama and GOP's nominee Mitt Romney. Recently I have been asked the same 3 questions over and over again:
A. Is Barack Obama's family Muslim?
B. If he is from a Muslim background: Does that explain his attitude towards Israel?
C. If he is from Muslim heritage: Does that have anything to do with his anger about the Anti- Muslim
film, and connecting the murder of 4 Americans in Libya on September 11th to that film??

As for questions B and C - there are many answers & views. But my answer to the first question is simple and factual.
A. In my new book "Mama Sarah Obama: Our Dreams & Roots" - Sarah Obama, Barack's step grandma, is describing how her family followed Islam for generations. She is also explaining, in detail, the circumstances under which her husband Hussein (Barack's grandfather) adapted Islam, and how the religion played an important role in their marriage (READ CHAPTER 2).
Later on - Sarah describes how Hussein was buried in a full Muslim service. (READ CHAPTER 7)
And then - how her son, Barack's father, was buried in a Muslim tradition. (READ CHAPTER 8)
So what??? Everyone should be proud of his (or her) religion and roots!
This became a problem after Barack announced that he was running for president. Naturally - there was lots of interest to his extra-ordinary background and personal story when he made the announcement. Suddenly - his family members in Kenya were told to be evasive about their religion. It might have been the work of a spin doctor in Obama's campaign. It might have happened without his direct knowledge ... But that pushed Sarah and her family into an awkward position ,,,
In "Mama Sarah Obama: Our Dreams & Roots" - I noted an amusing moment during an interview with Sarah and two of her kids. (READ CHAPTER 13) It is actually based on one of my TV interviews with them. When I wondered loudly: "Are you Muslim?" the chatty Sarah, all of a sudden became silent. She mumbled back something, looking at her son. Her discomfort was screaming ...Until her daughter jumped in and spilled the beans: "OK, we are Muslims! She is Muslim. He is Muslim ..."
